"animation is either kids stuff, or a niche market that you either are, or are not a part of"

Thats a bit of a broad sweeping statement. I wouldnt class animation as a niche at all, animation touches everyone in some way. It's those who can't have an open and imaginative mind that usually keep away from this sort of movie.
Nearly everyone (except a select few) would have hated it, but not much cared because animation is either kids stuff, or a niche market that you either are, or are not a part of.
I was speaking to what such people's assumptions as to what animation, in any capacity is. Yeah, it's a broad statement, but to those who are either decidedly against animation (not a large group of people) or those who are more or less indifferent to it (a far larger group here) such an assumption would be commonplace.

Anyway, all I was saying is that there's a lot of people out there who think that's the case about animation.

I do believe that animation is a niche market in the US, excluding programming or film made exclusively for children (disney specifically) whereas 'adult' animation, or that aimed at the 18-30 year old crowd (The Simpsons, Family Guy, Aqua Teen Hunger Force, etc.) makes up a far smaller market share than live action programming, either televised or feature film productions.

<- liked the village, add me to the list

<- saw THX-1138 a loooong time ago...i don't think we finished it. i could be wrong but i wasn't impressed at the time.

<- thought sky captain was fun, visually/stylistically fantastic, and rather lame plot-wise, the characters and story just didn't involve me. you can make a film that's an homage to classic films, retro, etc., without being overly cliched and writing lame dialogue.

will i buy the dvd? yeah, probably, for the behind the scenes stuff and commentary. probably wouldnt see it again in theaters tho unless someone else REALLY wanted to see it.

Case in point: Kill Bill. Even all the white guys I know who hate anime thought that the O'ren Iishi anime part was badass.
