This movie is the best one I've seen this season. And I've seen all of them. Well, the big ones, anyway.

I can promise you though, that this movie is unlike anything you've ever seen, and even if you think the plot sucks (which it doesn't) the visuals in this movie are just that good.

And you gotta love oldskool subject matter with newskool visual effects.

Anybody else see it yet?

Don't waste your money on this film! It was pathetic.. not only was the plot a copy of Titan AE, it was like watching Indiana Jones all over again, except in PG format.

Did anyone else notice the parallels to Star Wars? That character on the dying bed looked almost identical to Yoda, and that are they land in with the large ostrich creature looks a lot like Dagobah.. it even had the sea monster swim by.

I'm not saying that it added or subracted to the movie, i thought it just made it even more cheesy.

******************SPOLIERS*********************

Highlight:

I hate how no one dies. NO ONE DIES. Not even the animals (which was a particularly stupid bit of the movie)... the assassin was a robot, so it was never alive to begin with.

***********************************************

I give it a 5.5/10.

How was the plot in any way a copy of Titan AE? The titan wasn't a doomsday device in Titan AE, as recall, as well as a number of other factors.

And yeah, the dying mutant guy did look vaguely reminiscent of yoda, but in no way was he identical. Furthermore, what planet are you talking about? They never left earth.

Also, to which star wars parallels are you referring? I didn't see any.

Besides, George Lucas Wrote star wars to hearken back to the serials upon which Sky Captain is based. That's why stylistically they appear similar, because they're based on much the same style of cinema.

Anyway, my opinion is that you see this movie for the visual effects, which make it worth the ticket price.

No stunning, mind-**** graphics can match a 9 dollar ticket. The selling point of movies is plot, script and cinematography man...

What I'm saying though is that in my opinion, the plot was good, the story was original, and the visual effects were gravy on what was otherwise a fun, entertaining movie.

If ticket prices are your worry, then either download it, or go see a matinee show.

I don't care what anyone else says, you all have your own opinions and choice, and you have the right to post them here.

My opinion:

I loved it. Go see it.
_____

Now the rest is up to you, see it or not. I don't care, point is, I had a blast, and would pay 9 dollars to see it again.

This review summarizes my feelings toward the film: http://www.eclipsemagazine.com/modules/news/article.php?storyid=1124

One can admire the sheer audacity and boldness of vision that went into creating “Sky Captain and The World of Tomorrow,” but the admiration quickly evaporates 15 minutes into the film’s numerous plot holes, terrible writing, horrible use of CGI, and actors that were wooden and non-inspiring.

Let’s start with the plot, “Sky Captain” takes and plunders every old style plot element, devise, and movie it can find. There are moments in the film where they try their hand at Jurassic Park, Indiana Jones, and they BLATANTLY rip off Marvel Comic’s Nick Fury and the Agent of Shield. The story centers around the mystery of disappearing scientists and perky reporter Polly Perkins (Gwyneth Paltrow) to find out what happen. When futuristic robots and flying machines start attacking the world, they call in Joe 'Sky Captain' Sullivan (Jude Law) to save the day. Together they search for the scientists and figure out where the robots come from.

I think that if this movie's director had decided to make the film completely cgi, then we wouldn't be having this discussion. Nearly everyone (except a select few) would have hated it, but not much cared because animation is either kids stuff, or a niche market that you either are, or are not a part of.

Your major qualm with this movie is that it had echoes of other movies. So does every other movie made, at least in the west, in the past 50 years.

I enjoyed this movie for what it was. Something new, and different, that was entertaining and colorfully done. I'm not trying to convince you that you're wrong by disliking it, I'm trying ot tell people that have not that the movie is worth seeing because it's unlike anything else they've seen.

Furthermore, where are you people seeing movies at? $9 a ticket? The most I pay in my town is $7.50

Half the people dont even understand the meanings behind the movies so you watch it blindly just thinking.. wow.. action.. boring... I hate it when people bitch about good movies just becuase they're too stupid to appreciate it even if it isnt "the new best thing ever"

And i hate people who whine about people whining.

I understood the themes of Sky Captain, they were very elementary, and i did not go in with the expectation of seeing a movie that would blow me away. I went in expecting a decent movie that would keep me entertained and not make it seem like i was watching some children's television programming. (Spoilers coming up) When Polly freed all of the animals, i was very confused.. did that just happen? Did she just risk their own lives just because she happened to make eye contact with a cow on the way up the ladder? THEN, i was hoping those two would at least be [b]DEAD{/b] at the end - let them die, let this movie redeem itself! They didn't die.. it's just like every other good vs. evil movie.

Tell me, besides the cinematography, which i admit was very pleasing to the eye and very unique - where was the substance? Where was the originality in the plot? How was the screenplay AT ALL captivating?
