Just dropped 400 hard-earned dollars on the new 4th generation 40 GB iPod. Anyways, I have a few accessories in mind already, but can't afford them at the moment. As for a case, is this iPod so new that cases haven't been made yet? All I see are 3rd generation cases with the punchouts for the 4 buttons. Does anyone know when a newer case will come out? Also, for all of you iPod owners, any recommended accessories? I'm sure I'll want a FM tuner thing so I can listen in my car, but whats the best?... iTrip, Belkin...etc?

Yeah it takes a while for new cases to come out. I've heard the iTrip is pretty good for an FM tuner.

Nah. The 40 comes with everything already. Otherwise I'd say get a dock and a remote. but you have that already.

Yea, I have read many comprehensive reviews on the iTrip, and it sounds like a good little divice for what it is, if you are looking for excellent quality sound in you car, I reccomend one of those do it yourself kits to install it directly into your car. (You can remove it. It should charge off the car battery too, like it were in a dock.) Make sure if you do that, that the audio output is coming from the bottom dock connector, that gives a better sound than the headphone jack, because the headphone jack is aplified and then deamplified to meet personal headphone requirements and the dock is just amplified.

Also, be sure you have that protection plan, and if not, I reccomend getting in before your window runs out. You did buy from the first wave of a new machine, and if that battery goes, or if there really are problems with the headphone jack like the rumors going around say there are, etc etc, then you would want to use that protection plan.

Thanks a lot msz, I'll be sure to purchase the protection plan. Where can I buy a kit for my car? That appeals to me, I was a little bummed about only radio-quality sound, so it sounds like an awesome idea. Are they difficult to install? Thanks!

Well, first off, for ANYTHING iPod, check out ipodlounge.com. They've got forums, tips and tricks, and reviews for almost every iPod product out there. Now, for the in car thing, you will be paying more, obviously, lemme link you to their reviews on them.

http://www.ipodlounge.com/reviews.php Basically, just go here, and look under the second category, "Car Kits"

Have fun, good luck. :D

I've got a ew friends with iTrips, and I've heard only good things. Of course, the only schtick to the iTrip is that it's a transmitter built to compliment the design of the iPod it'self. there are a number of transmitters you can get from almost anywhere, some likely more powerfull than the iTrip, but for maximum portability, the iTrip's top notch.

Also, the itrip is small enough and (I believe) has a headphone jack on itself, as it uses the iPods own, and can thus be left in place when you're carrying it around, so that you can put it in anyone's car and not have to fumble with adapter cords, or if they've got a CD player with no tape deck, you can still listen to your entire library, which in a 40 gb iPod is likely more cd's than their entire trunk and backseat can accomodate.

Well, when I went to update my iPod with all of my music, my iPod crashed and froze up. So, I'm going to exchange it for a new one during my lunch break today. Do most of you with iPods do the automatic update or manual? Just curious... I don't know why it froze up. It transfered about 20 songs and then crashed!

I did automatic update until I couldn't fit my music on it anymore, then I had to switch to manual update so I could pick which songs to put on there. Never had it crash though. Did you try it a second time? Or just box it up and take it back?
