I got this off of another forums.

"It's also run by google (employment at google, btw, generally requires U.S. Gov't security clearance, and most of the employees used to work for "three letter organizations" in Washington...). They have admitted that while they'll give you a gig of storage, and allow you to delete the messages from your account, they will not, in fact, ever erase said messages. They also advertise that they will do keywork scans on all incoming and outgoing mail (an arguable violation of privacy of the people sending it to you, as they've agreed to nothing, unlike the account holders, who agree to this invasion of privacy). Theoretically, they will be doing said scans to "better target advertising" to you (did I mention your email will have ads stuck in it?). Of course, considering the terabytes of information they store on a routine basis, who knows what they may wind up using it for sometime down the road...... See, for more information, here.

(Incidentally, if you do websearches using google, you might want to be aware that they put a cookie on your machine that gives you an ID number, and they store on their end the collection of all searches you've ever done, as well as what IPs you did them from... the cookie has a default expiration time of 36 years... What's so bad about google? Read this. If you have a gmail account, the searches thereof will also be added to this info base... For websearches I'd strongly suggest www.dogpile.com, a metasearch engine that includes google, but is much more effective, and has a 48 hour cookie.)"

man if your jealous that no one has offered you a gmail account, this ( most likely ) wouldn't be the way to go about getting one.

Both of those sites are run by a whiney little bastard that got mad at Google because his site didn't come up under the keywords *he* thought it should come up under. So he made a couple of sites badmouthing google just because he sucks at search engine optimization.
