Hmm.. they still can't prove that any profit was made, though, unless they tap my phone lines or something, which is illegal for private companies to do.

Thanks for the warning, though. I'll be careful with keywords if i ever do sell websites.

I think even if you don't claim that you made any money, the person paying might have to explain where his money went. A lot of times buisness will write off website as a buisness expense so it's not like the owners digging into his savings or wallet and paying in cash. Well some might. I did a website for a tile company and they were able to write it off. So my earnings for that job was reported.

I think it might have to do with how much you're making too.

You're missing the point man. The keywords are general ones littered in a typical commercial site. Unless you can get around not using everyday words in a business, you are a target. They don't need to tap phones. If that website itself generates income or sells anything of any sort and has the watermarked images, then they know. You could be selling underwear for all they care. All they see is a commercial site made with student software.

It's not a matter of the transaction between you and a client. It's them just tearing the site down and informing the owner that it was illegal. Then the owner/client will come back to you.

Hey, I'm not trying to scare you. This is only Adobe I know about anyways, and even then, its just something I heard. Infact, I can't find anything about it online.

Even if it's true, I don't think you will be too much of a target. How many sites do you plan on making and selling?

Plus, you can't call new software a POS, it has feelings you know.

LOL..

Well here's the thing.. I suck at web design for the most part, so i don't think i'll be doing anything substantial with this software any time soon. I will probably put a portfolio site up soon, and if people like my work, they can call me and set something up that way. No where on the site will i say that i do websites for clients, though.

I think what i'll mostly do is go to some local businesses in my college town and see if they would like a website. That way, nothing is ever online, and there is no way the software company will know.

Yes, the business may record the purchase to the IRS, but since when did Macromedia have access to business tax details?

Thanks for your help.

I recently bought Macromedia Studio MX 2004 and Adobe Photoshop CS (8.0). These products are of course the educational version. Because of this, I brought this issue up with my dad. My father called both Adobe and Macromedia about using these products for commercial use.

Well according to both, it's "a-ok" for students to use this software for small business. My dad was rather puzzled, and quoted the Terms of Service to them, but they told him not to worry about it. Considering I'm a student, I should be fine (by what they said).
