Yah I feel good about getting my own software too.

I get mine from journeyed.com. For all you students they've got some really good prices.

I got my Adobe CS just over a month ago. I keep finding out nice little features nearly everyday. It was very exciting to finally get some new software.

Yeah, same with gradware.com.

I went down to Denver University and just bought mine, didn't really want to wait for shipping @_@.

You do know that it is illegal to profit from student software? The rumour is (but I have yet to see it in action and/or even read about it anywhere), but Adobe has "sniffers" that can track websites that are created with student version software. The images and what not have invisible watermarks in them. I also wonder if Macromedia does something like this, if it is at all true. But if you aren't making money with it, or don't plan to, then I guess there is nothing to worry about.

I just read the MACROMEDIA® SOFTWARE End User License Agreement for Flash MX, and it says nothing of the sort. In fact, the only mention of the word "profit" is in the following context:

(a) NEITHER MACROMEDIA NOR ITS SUPPLIERS SHALL BE LIABLE TO YOU OR ANY THIRD PARTY FOR ANY INDIRECT, SPECIAL, INCIDENTAL, PUNITIVE, COVER OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES (INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO, DAMAGES FOR THE INABILITY TO USE EQUIPMENT OR ACCESS DATA, LOSS OF BUSINESS, LOSS OF PROFITS...

How can you lose profits if you aren't supposed to be making any in the first place?

Perhaps Adobe does such a thing with their products - i wouldn't really know. The only product i have of their is a commercial version of Photoshop 7.

Gees you'd think they'd be happy enough that people aren't pirating it out-right, to not go around snooping on the people that just wanted to pay a more reasonable price. I mean yes of course you should pay for it, not arguing there, they should just be more happy people are paying something for it rather than just downloading it.

If that's true of course.

I actually found a loophole for that. You can buy the student versions and then just upgrade with the professional versions. (Well actually I haven't tried it with the CS versions.)

I bought Adobe photoshop 5.5 student version and then upgraded to 7.0 professional version. The upgrade only cost me $100 at the time. I did the same for Illustrator.

I mean I don't know how good of a deal it would be if you bought the upgrade right after you got the student version. But like after you've gotten your student versions, when the time comes you can upgrade instead of buying the full priced professional version.

(Edit) I read this over again and I don't think it makes sense. What I mean was Adobe has upgrades for their products which are much cheaper. You can't use them unless you have an older full version on your computer. Buy the professional upgrade version for your student versions.

I didn't mean buy another full version and just install it over it.

Hmm I wonder if that works for macromedia?
