I'd go to a mom and pop place if I wanted coffee too. A lot the drinks at starbucks aren't your ordinary coffee. I think it depends what you want. Personally I don't like coffee so I go to starbucks for other things to choose from.

I think the closest Starbucks I know of is in Charlotte. 3 hours away. I know they plague L.A. - even on Melrose - but I never see one around here.

Edit: oh yeah, there's one on Franklin Street - U.N.C. Campus.

Give me a locally-owned funky Mom and Pop coffee shop any day of the week over a Starbucks.
Better coffee, better prices, better atmosphere, better entertainment.
Just...better.

I totally agree with this, StarBuck as no style... no decor wich I think is imporantant... When i go to a coffee I want to be in an interesting place... There is a few really nice coffe here in Montreal... (if you ever come to Montral you have to go on St-Laurent... and St-Denis its all nigth club, cool coffee and restaurents and small store...)

I don’t really see a relation between a mom and pop coffee shop and a starbucks. They’re both completely different things. People go to them for different reasons.
