If your console supports DVD game mediums, why not integrate a DVD player? It would be far more idiotic to NOT allow a DVD-ROM to play DVD movies.

The gamecube uses DVD type CDs which are half the size of the regular size CD that the PS2/xbox uses. It's still a DVD medium.

However, of course since the cube uses discs half the size, it can't play DVDs. However, it still, at the time of release, was 100 dollars cheaper than the Xbox or PS2 at their time of releases (at the time when the cube came out, the xbox was brand new and the ps2 had been already out for like half a year already?)

See, the cube efficiently used DVD discs to play games but at the same time didn't bother with a dvd player and still cut back 100 bucks on the price so it's nice for the consumer, as well as it being smart for the company because now piracy has become a lot harder due to a different disc size. Also, the miniscule amount of money that it takes to create/print a label for a DVD disc has now divided in half. And of course if they need more space than available on the disc (and that's hard to do), then they can always use more than one CD.

I believe that a majority of the DVD disc for a majority of the games on PS2 and shiz are not even used, so might as well cut it out. (Don't take my word for it on this statement though.... I read it somewhere lol :P)

Well of course...you're not going to add data to your game JUST TO FILL UP THE DISK!!! But 700MB isn't going to be enough for even the smallest games. And I can guarantee you that it is far cheaper for Sony & Microsoft to use a standard media disk than a proprietary medium.

Of course 700mb isn't even close to enough. I never said that the system was using regular CDs. Nintendo is using real DVDs just half the size. which means it's still a few gigs which is a lot of space for a game.

That's why the half disk is more efficient. besides if you ever overdo it, you can always use new disks.

I doubt i'll see a ps2 or xbox game that needs 2 discs anytime soon...
