Well every time Microsoft tries to make a new software package preinstalled they get sued, so that's not a fair comparison. True, but not fair.
Nope. Monstrously significant difference.

It's that Microsoft likes to bundle things so that they're so tightly tied into the OS that it's either impossible or very difficult for most people to remove or replace them with screwing with the core functionality of the OS.

Macintosh applications? Drag 'em to the trash and delete 'em, in 99.9995% of cases.

No fuss, no muss. The OS keeps humming along happily untouched.

Religious fanaticism aside, when you just tool around on a mac in a store, you don't quite get how it's different, aside from just the appearance. It really hits you when you burn a cd, or load a program, and realize that yes, it is that simple. Especially in using programs like iTunes, and iChat. Say you want to send a song ot a friend. You drag it from iTunes, into the chat bar, press enter, and that's it. No direct connecting, nothing. Now what if your entire system worked like that? Everything was drag and drop. Everything is in realtime. When you delete something, it's deleted. No uninstall, no DLL's, no hidden system files. What you see really is what you get. That's what OS X is all about.

If at all possible, if you're not ready to 'take the plunge' and get a mac, without fully using one as some do, you can visit an Apple store near you, ask them to go over some of the features. The people at the Apple stores are some of the best, least pushy salesmen that I've ever seen in retail. I've been to Apple Stores in 2 cities, as well as various liscensed Apple Retailers all over the place. They let the product speak for itself, which is really how it should be. Also, be an informed consumer. I'm going to guess that you're not a PC newbie by any means, and if you have some mastery of the complexities of windows, you'll full understand the comparative ease of OS X's assorted applications.

PC's FOREVER! Macs are horrible!

I have hear the same things too, Paladin. I think the reasons more use mac is because of it's programs, iLife is very nice and most of the Mac stuff is easy to use.

edit: errr... my sarcastic tags up top aren't showing up. It was supposed to look like
< sarcastic > PC's FOREVER! Macs are horrible! < /sarcastic >

I love trying to start fights. :D

There are some who do that, those who genuinely understand the way in which a computer works, and there are others who buy Apple products because they're cool. They look modern, they have altogether better designs than PC products, and they carry a stigma of being as such. It's typically 'understood' (or at least believed) that those who buy Apple products are more in the know than those who buy PC products. They're thought to be 'in the know' and informed enough to be different.

There are also a growing number of those who buy apple products as image items. This isn't by any means a bad thing. There are some Apple purists that still think that the more people who buy Apple, the more they 'taint' the product's loyal user base. That's just weird, puritanical nonesense.

Also, in other news, the iPod Mini is at the top of Apple's top 10 sales list. So for all the bashing we all did, it seems that they've found the market niche they were going for. I still think it's an image item, but that doesn't by any means indicate that it won't be a top seller for a long time to come.

The people that type "mac vs. pc" are the ones that turn it into mac vs. pc threads.

Actually it becomes Mac vs PC when people try and argue for one over the other using subjective reasoning. For example, "I personally", "I think" and so on.

How else are you supposed to reason between the two? What is it besides a personal choice? How can you say what kind of anything is better without expressing your own opinions? You could say a lamborghini is better than a chevy truck but how are you going to back that up? A farmer that needs a truck isn't going to agree with you. Whether the lamborghini is "better" or not, it's not what he needs/wants. It's impossible to leave your own opinions or emotions out of the discussion...
