Am I the only one who doesnt think this is funny or something, I don't see it as a prank but a senseless piece of defamation that is not only probably illegal but more than a little stupid.

it depeneds on how you look at it man. What I imagine is that the CC guy made a stupid joke but it need not necessarily be defamatory - just a bad joke. It came out bad sure - but I really don't think it started out that way. Nobody is that stupid - to do that on purpose is to burn your own house...

this forum sure is cranky lately. lighten up, cranky bastards! :D I worked for a newspaper in college, and I used to put jokes in the proofs, when I didn't get what I needed. - i.e. "PUT HEADLINE HERE, DUMBASS" until one almost went to print. Bad idea. Funny, but still a bad idea. Not nearly as funny as some racist redneck in Texas thinks he is, obviously. |

even if the printing people didn't know what it was supposed to say, that ad had to come back to someone for a press check who should be double-checking spelling, looking for dust and scratches, etc. and now for a strange but true story... at one of my previous employers we were creating a demo for a very large well known company who was working on a broadband content project (something along the lines of akamai), most of the work went into the coding, creating a media player, etc. this was going to be shown to a number of this company's primary investors at a stockholder/investor meeting. i had pretty much nothing to do with the project other than giving feedback to the guys working on it so i never saw the final product or anything. what i do know is that when the project was being checked by one of the company's vp-types a few days before their meeting he hit a button and little javascript alert box popped up that said "f**k you" (without the stars). needless to say that triggered a phone call back to us that triggered a whole lot of phone calls, meetings, and one-on-one "discussions" with management. what happened, as far as i can tell, is that the guy who was coding it put in javascript alerts to make sure that certain variables were being returned, the code was going to the right places, etc., and while he was away from his desk someone changed the alert message and he never caught it. i to this day have no idea what happened as everyone denied it, i need to check with those guys now (as none of us work there anymore) and see if they'll fess up chris |

That kind of stuff happens all the time. I can understand how it got past everone, it looks like it's on the inside spread of the sheet. If so, when it comes off the press, it's already folded and the pressman only checks for color on that stuff, not content. We used to have stuff swapped around all the time, wrong pictures with the wrong caption, flopped images, (words on product reading backward) crap like that. Once the guy who put the first block of type in, he forgot about it and moved on with his work. Most of the times these newspaper inserts are printed in "sweat shops" and the order of the day is "get it on press, get it out the door, repeat, we ain't selling color, we are selling landfill". |
