One of my professors was telling me that the new ipods have parts from different companies in them. Like it’s a well kept secret. He was saying for instance that the touch pads are designed by some other company and that Apple actually paid this huge fee so that the company wouldn’t include their brand name on the inside of the ipod for the touch pads. Apparently they want to make it seem the whole things was designed by apple which it wasn’t. So I don’t know if that has anything to do with the batteries failing.

It's not a secret that the parts are made from third parties... That's one of the things that is so impressive, that they can still make it the smallest hard drive based player even with third party parts. (I don't know for certain that it is the smallest, there may be a smaller one by now) And there is a one year warranty, not a 0 day warranty. And for $59 you can get a 2 year warranty which does include replacing the battery... Gees do you guys believe everything you hear or read on the internet? Check out the links I posted earlier in this thread, it plainly explains the warranties and everything. Cybling, I'm sure you can get a replacement, have you called Apple yet? How old is your iPod? And like Zyconium said, don't let the battery run down to zero... Keep i charged up as much as possible if you want it to last longer. |

Aren't you supposed to charge it all the way up and then let it go all the way down like three times to prolong battery life in the future? That's what the instructions have said for all of my internal-battery-operated things (digital camera, cell phones, etc.). I have a Sony MiniDisc player - got it because you can have more than one disc, where mp3 player chips can get expensive. You can have more music in a collection of MDs than on one chip. Which means you dont have to keep checking on to your computer to get more tracks. I dunno. tom |

Tom, that would be true of a solid state memory card based MP3 player, but the iPod can hold up to 10,000 songs on the large model, so I don't think you'd need to change any disks for that. The battery care tips I've read for the iPod say that you should just keep it charged all the time. You don't have to wait until it is completely dead to charge it again like some batteries. |
