Here is an review on Indesign CS from a Quark Xpress user. I figured that the article would be totally biased, but so far, that doesn't seem to be the case. I'm sure there will only be 5 of us in here that care, but here it is. Cheers http://www.arstechnica.com/reviews/003/software/indesign/indesign-1.html P.S. I am an Ex-Quark patriot who now loves Indesign with every desktop publishing bone in my body. :D |

That's actually a really awesome article. There is a guy in our marketing department who is going to kill me for forwarding that to everyone. He thinks Adobe is the art-world's devil, and won't go near anything that even smells of Adobe.

The only reason why I still like quark is that I'm familiar with it. I've been trying to learn Indesign and I think as soon as I get the hang of that, that'll replace quark for me. I just like how much easier it working with indesign especially since I use about 3 other adobe products that all work great with it.

Maybe that's why he's in marketing and not working as a designer or art director? |

I have never used indesign, but have spent some time with PageMaker 6.5, is there a similarity between indesign and pagemaker? I have heard it replaced pagemaker, is why I am asking.

Quark blew Pagemaker away "professionaly" and Pagemaker never recovered. Quark was superior in every way, except customer service (I have heard on more then one occasion that they have the worst in the industry). As I understand, Indesign was a more aggresive attempt to get back into page layout software that would appeal to the professional market. I used Quark 4.1 in school and tried Indesign 1.5. I didn't like 1.5 at all. But then 2.0 came out and I am blown away. Quark still has at least 80% of the market, but that is rapidly changing. |

the only reason quark is still around is because they've got a huge pre-existing marketshare. their product is a pain in the butt to use and hasn't improved too much in years. go indesign chris |
