Sorry if I seem hostile, but I get a little fed up with people who don't help themselves.

I keep telling him to make something which we can critique but he just keeps making these threads.

People skills are an important thing to learn as a designer too. You need to work on it and try not to be so condescending towards others.

If you don't wish to help someone out thats brand new. Simply don't post in these threads. Problem solved.

Ok so the 'Fundamentals Of Design', I'll be sure to Google for it...

Oh man...
Oh for the love of...

Ok, here is, quite honestly what will prove to be the undoing of designers:
UNPLUG YOURSELF FOR 15 DAMN MINUTES, AND GO GET SOME FREAKING AIR

Seriously, people rely waaaaaaay to heavily on their computers, and yes, obviously you need to use a computer to construct a website, but who says that all of it has to be made on a computer. You can incorporate graphics from anywhere INCLUDING things taken from 'reality'. Namely drawings, collage elements, even bits of string, if you really want.

I guess this whole 'no computer' thing with me for the past week has kind of reminded me of that. On the first day without it, I was freaking out, but then I remembered, 'oh yeah, you can make art without a computer'. I guess I kind of needed that to be punched back into my head.

Also, anpother problem I've seen is people with no, or relatively little creative talent delving straight into photoshop, then calling themselves a digital artist. They make no effort to learn the fundamentals of design, and ultimately end up hitting road blocks along the way, ie. Fizzling out on inspiration, etc.

This isn't a thing with you either, a lot of people do it. If nothing else, unplug yourself for a little while. And, you may not believe me here, but I'll say it anyway...COMPUTERS DO NOT HAVE ALL THE ANSWERS. Yes, they're an invaluable design tool, but art did not begin with the computer revolution.

So...go pick up some drawing books, take some design classes, draw some stuff, anything, just, don't rely solely upon your computer.

Sure this guy is not good at photoshop, and I am being an ass to him, but he makes no visible effort.

There is some guy here who is making a site called "morph design" or something. It's not a very good site and you can tell he is new to photoshop, but atleast he is making layouts and posting them and revising them. He didn't just post "How do I make a cool website? I like 2A and PankPages. I want to make stuff like that."

Your right, I'm not helping him out in this thread, but examine the vast majority of my posts in his 4 threads. I keep telling him to actually make something. That's advice if I ever heard it.

Yeah, Telemakhos does have a point, despite his 'pointed' manner of speech.

Rather than going after a process, such as making a website, learn the basics, and have your work judged by your peers, be it us or your friends at home. You may recieve some more honest criticism here because, quite frankly, we have no way of ever meeting you, and thus avoid any liability for harsh comments made on this forum.

But yes, instead of asking, then doing, just go ahead and do. And along the way, the process in itself will answer your questions as you progress toward being a better designer.

Long story short, show us some designs, and if hosting's an issue, then if you kindly ask one of us here on the forum, they may be so kind as to host it for you. Otherwise, look under the Resources section, and there you'll find not only hosting options, but also the answers to many of the questions you've been asking recently.
