In Windows - its pissing me off that programs or websites load over the things that I'm using. For instance, I start up Photoshop, and the splash/loading screen comes up. Then I minimize and start up Dreamweaver. Comparable window comes up, and it loads. Then I open Windows Media Player, which is much faster. So I start using that, and all of a sudden Photoshop jumps in front of me, screaming "I'm all done loading! Don't forget about me!" I can remember that I started it - I'll start using it when I'm ready. So I minimize it, and then Dreamweaver does the exact same thing. All the windows are on the toolbar - I can remember that I opened them. I'll use them when I want to use them, thank you very much. How can I multitask while always having to be reminded that "I'm done loading! Use me!"? Gets on my nerves.

Can I stop this in Windows? Does Mac do this?

I was just thinking how ****ing pissed off this makes me the other day too. And sometimes when there is an error in a program it will do the same thing, and not let you do anything else on your computer until you click ok or whatever. Bastards. I honestly don't know if they Mac does this or not, haven't spent enough time doing "real work" on it. But I am guessing it doesn't. It doesn't sound very mac-like. Or maybe it is just a per-program deal. Like adobe and macromedia do it to their programs for some reason...

I think you're getting a little too angry over something that's not that big of a deal.

Yes it is a big deal, it interrupts me getting any work done every time I want to start a program. Sometimes I'll be typing something while waiting for photoshop to start, then it pops up in your face, messing up what I was typing. Which isn't that big of a deal until you are typing file names or something like that, which is much more annoying.

It annoys me because I like to be efficient. Sometimes when it pops up in my face it isn't even loaded. It's only half-loaded, and can't be minimized until it loads completely, which could be like 10 seconds. I want it to load completely while minimized and then be able to open it when we're both good and ready. :D

I just started dreamweaver and went back into PS 7 and edited some type while it loaded. Never came back to the foreground.

that does sound annoying. might be an OSX thing, too. OS 9 might not do that. ;)

Exactly.

Also, for those who, for either preference or skill, prefer to use hotkeys, there are times that we're not even looking at the monitor. It's kind of like driving without using your hands, for a little while.

But yeah, when you're going along, using hotkeys, as I very much like to, and another program just pops up, just to let you know that it's still there, it can definitely screw some things up. Namely due to the fact that hotkeys do some very different things in different programs.

*note: I have never had that 'pop-up' problem in Mac OS X.

In Mac OSX the icon of the program on the dock just bounces up and down, and as Jake said, "It looks like it is saying 'Love me! Love me!'"

Bounces up and down? I wish that it would load and then start blinking or something - like incoming instant messages. I'm guessing thats kinda what you're talking about.
