or, what if the 'aliens' just had a mass exodus of earth a long time ago? So only a few humans were left on earth to reproduce, knowing nothing about the 'alien' race that left earth. This 'alien' race could have been further advanced than we are now when they left (in order for them to get to some other planet). Therefore, they could be FAR enough advanced now in technology that they can travel through time and far distances quickly. They know all about us and 'visit' us every so often for scientific purposes much like we 'visit' animals in the wild to learn about how they develop and live. So that could explain why they haven't landed at the white house and done a press conference(sp?). do I believe this? no. but like you said, it's fun to think about it. |

Oooooooh K... Clearly no one has heard of the theory and/or belief surrounding the Nephilim, given the lack of responses to my previous post, so I, shall educate you: I should preface this by saying that the following is not an entire representation of what I believe, but does in fact outline a well thought out, and thoroughly christian worldview, that is in fact evidenced in myth and fact of the past. Please note also that I do recognize the bible as myth, and do not entirely discredit other myths as partially accurate retellings, or attempted interpretations of the past, as seen my a primitive, much older people, not unlike ourselves, who in an attempt to understand the world around them, specifically that which they could not tangibly explain (the supernatural) myths were created to help them provide answers to themselves. As stated above, I do believe the bible to be myth, insofar as I cannot irrevocably verify the accounts which it gives, but I do not, however, believe that it is false. Please not that this is a belief and I am not in any way preaching. But without any further ado, the Nephilim. Ok, this subject is waaaay bigger than I originally thought, so I looked for a summary. I found one which I agree mostly with here Now, the above is based upon the reader having a prestanding knowledge of the creation laid out in the bible, but for those that do not, I will give you a brief summary: At some point prior to God's creation of mankind, and now mind you, there really existed no concept of 'time' as we know it, there was a heavenly schism, in which Lucifer, whom the bible calls God's most loved angel, seeks to make the angels loyal to himself, thus, for all intents and purposes, becoming god. Lucifer was then, cast out of heaven, and those angels who had become loyal to him, 1/3 of the original number, were cast out as well. They took refuge in and on the earth. Now, here's where I begin to explain aliens. Aliens are/have been long understood, in most christian circles to be fallen angels. They, once living on the earth, and given that God did create humans thereafter, there were a some of the fallen angels who then procreated with human women (This is the basis for the belief that all angels are male). An example of this in the bible, though not overtly stated, is the presence of Goliath, who is commonly believed to be one of these Half-Human, Half Fallen-Angel beings. These beings are known as the Nephilim. It is commonly believed that these creatures were concieved in situations of rape, and are believed also to be, given the corruption of the fallen angels (Demons) to be evil in nature. There's much more to all of this, and I'd be happy to discuss it with anyone who fells like asking me, but for the sake of mot making this post any longer, I'll leave it here for now. |

Ok... you guys found me out, admittedly I am an alien. Sorry, I couldn't resist... I have no opinion on the whole Nephilim theory other than I don't buy it... I am an atheist. Interesting to read though. *Edit* Oh, and for the whole alien thing...when I see I will believe it. I don't dismiss the possibility of aliens though, how can anyone? Mara |

Yes, given evolutionary notions wherein organisms could quite reasonably exist beyond our solar system, and given also that they could very well have existed for far longer than ourselves, then it's entirely plausible to believe that there is a completely separate race of aliens that does, on occasion, visit our planet. But there are other holes in the larger scheme of that argument. |

uhhh...religion turn watch out - this will take you to biig flames as for the aliens - I'm a real believer. The skeptical kind - I would give an arm if someone proved their visits (on earth) to me....oh well - a finger. But until I see a flying saucer with my own eyes...heh. the nephilim stuff - nah - I'm with mara |

I don’t think religion has the answers to what we seek when it comes to questions and discussions on whether they’re other forms of life out there. What I think is that the universe is way to big not to have any other types of life. I’m not convinced that any other beings have visited our planet though. I just believe that there are other beings out there that haven’t been discovered and may possibly never be discovered. I sure hope we're aliens though! ;) |
