That is kind of what I was thinking. They say it's a $30 value each month, but realistically hosts charge about $7 - $15 a month for a site about this size. But still its free, you can use it for 3 years wthout obligation, and move to another server. Probably be way more stable than Angelfire or Brinktser.

Well, anyone not smart enough to keep track of how long they've been signed up, deserves to get charged if they so choose to start charging.

But the thing is, since they take no billing information from you, there's no way to immediately start charging you once the 3 years is up. I'm sure they'll say 'hey, time to start paying, or fine you're cut off'.

Hey, have any of you guys who signed up for the 3 years of hosting gotten up and running? I'm interested, but just wondering if you guys are smooth sailing with the setup.

Can you purchase a .com name or something. The site said it was like $5.99 a year, is this added to the free hosting or what? Apparently you would do it from the CP.

Any feedback would be great.

I havent done it but have a member at my site who has. I've already been into his control panel and played around and all. You will need a domain because the URL the give you is [random numbers].complicated-BS.us....

I'll give you the same advice I gave him. Since nothing much is known about the company, I still wouldn't give them any kind of billing info. Yes you may pay a few dollars more, but go through dotster.com, register.com or some other reputable registrar and get your domain.

There have been hosts in the past who offered domain registration, but claimed rights to it and wouldn't give it up in the long run, so you're out a domain name. I've been with Dotster for a long time and know that I take my name with me wherever I go.

That's just my 2 cents.

I may be being over-cautious, but I'm just watching out for people's best interest. This isn't like a Host Rocket or Media Temple. This is the first I've ever heard of this company.

Thanks for the advice Mobile. You brought up one of the reasons I was asking, cuz I'm being cautious. It's just one of those to good to be true things.

Now if I register a domain name with Dotster, and I go into another host, how does that work? I mean, is the name transferred or something like that? Haven't done this before, so any help would be appreciated.

Thanks for your time.

Cheers!

If you register in dotster you control the domain. I like dotster. They keep you in total control of the domain.

I signed up right away, got the call, and checked out the cp. Seems like it's all good. I have a reseller account with a kick @$$ host - www.insiderhosting.com (recommended by Deker), and because they are so stable i will stay with them no matter what, but I may move my site at the free one to test it out, or put some friends site on there. And Zerimar3 - definitely use a domain name company (not netsol - ack) that isn't your host, unless the host gives you 100% control over the domain. Most will register it for you, and getting it from them is always a hassle. Some are good about it, but take forever to get the transfer done. Simplest just to set up one account with dotster and buy all your domains thru them.
