I'm typing this from my new G5... Still adjusting to OSX, but after about 4.5 hrs of use I have ZERO complaints! Actually, I'm stoked as hell! I feel as if I've come out of the dark ages. I've... sync'd my iPod, ripped a bunch of cd's, printed a few emails, rendezvous picked up my EPSON printer no sweat. Installed all my software - MS Office is niiiice. I haven't used Photoshop or Dreamweaver yet, but I have two sites to build this weekend, and a motorcycle show to photograph, so I'll see how the canon software and firewire compact flash reader work soon. hey Pank - this site looks sexy in Safari! Good riddance to IE for Mac. |

x_fusiun_x, I hear you loud & clear! I wanted the dual 2 GB G5, too - believe me! - but, I took the difference in price, and bought a killer digital camera instead. Finally had some time to play with Photoshop last night on the new mac.... ... HOLY CRAP! I opened a 53 MB photo, flipped it, made 30 + layers and rotated it and added layer effects to some text - painted with my selection for a while, and ran some filters, too. Dude, it didn't even break a sweat. Very smooth. You can tell that G5 was tested out by Adobe for a while in beta - ridiculously sweet. Now, my dually G4 at work seems lousy... :( I wanna go home! Now, for the Dreamweaver/Flash/Photoshop/Illustrator/ with-10 -browser-windows-open-while-burning-a-DVD-test... :D |

I bet that burnt a hole in your pocket! You know, that machine will take around 10 years to get 'out of date', great buy. I'm so jealous! Dont forget www.versiontracker.com graphicsguy, thousands of handy OSX apps. Look out for ASM, Duality, FruitMenu...the list goes on!

OK, OK, now I think the new macs look cool, and that they are probably pretty good and everything, and I would like one myself... but 10 YEARS? Are you insane man? Thats ridiculous. |

I dunno, the G4's been around for a while, and is still rockin' the casbah. The G5's even more sick. It'll definitely be around for a while.

I'm deadly serious..our G4s (blue) in work were bought when they first came out and they are still as effecient as ever with plenty of HD space and speed. The G5 will be around for AGES!

I hope I don't use it for 10 years - hell, it'll be outdated by Christmas! - I could realistically see 4 or 5 years, cybling, you're right. The G3 I just upgraded from has lasted me since college - I bought it in Oct. 1998. I was using system 8.5, I think... It took alot of patience and creativity to use that little beige bastard for 5 yrs! (and an external 40GB HD) - ask some of the older members here on TeamPS I've been bitching about it for a while. All I did was upgrade the RAM 128MB, put in a video card and a USB card... |
