Heck no I wasn't kidding. I've got about 1000 reasons from experience on why Gateway is better than "insert other company here"

I got a reason why voodoopc is better than all the others: They just released the worlds first 17" xp-ready notebook... so now mac-users aren't the only ones who can get big screen laptops! And you exagerate the price... sure its a bit higher than dell, but your getting killer quality, and mods that the cheaper places wont give you.

Of course, if I was to get anything I would just get the parts and build it myself... but ya' know... thats just me... unless of course I bought a laptop... but I like being able to handpick every last part, right down to the IDE cables and the fans.

www.hypersonic-pc.com has a 17" laptop coming out, as does toshiba and just about every other computer maker... Not a reason to buy a voodoo. And they are extremely overpriced. I'd be afraid to buy a gateway, considering all the business troubles they have been having. my dell has been pretty good, and they are pretty affordable I suppose. i'd go with ibuypower or hypersonic-pc probably. alienware and falcon-nw charge more for their brand name and fancy cases. and pganguly, the pc gaming market is a whole lot larger and more important than the mac gaming market. people do buy $4000 machines just to play games, so that's why they market it to them. plus pc games are arguably the most computer intensive things you can do with a computer other than heavy research programs or 3d rendering stuff, so if you market it as a top of the line game machine, people know it will be fast enough to do anything else with as well. |

Yeah, I know. It just get's kind of annoying.
It's not like I would not buy one for that reason, it's just one of those dumb little things that annoy me. like SUV's. Acres of room, tons of power, just to pick the kids up from soccer practice, or drive your 12 minute commute. It just seems like a waste I know, I know, I'm talking about the ridiculously big SUV's like the one's that are like, two SUV's stuck together. Those are the ridiculous ones. They just annoy me! *Runs outside and eats neighbor's Ford Excursion* |

The PC gaming market is a lot smaller than the console gaming market, but it's also made up of primarily hardcore gamers. Guys that buy nearly every game that comes out, spend thousands of dollars upgrading their computers, read all the news sites, spend hours and hours per week gaming, go to lan parties, etc. Whereas with a console a lot of people buy one and play it maybe once or twice a month. Plus a lot of pc gamers are IT people, and like to tinker and upgrade and have the fastest system anyway, just because they can. The game pc makers also don't sell that many comptuers. compared to dell or anyone like that. it's a niche, just like the mac is. so i don't really see why you are so against it. |

Its huge. Being around several of the gaming companies - Nintendo, Radical, EA, Microsoft.... They hand pick their programmers and developers. The corporate headquarters overshadow everything around them.... Its a multi billion dollar industry. But you'd have to include x-box, playstations, sega, etc. and not just pc's because games are not ported for one platform. With the invent of online gaming and the spawning of all these stat and clan competitions, the one with the fast machine and the best ping and too much time on his/her hands, wins. Since fewer desktops are macs, the pc was the main target. But these companies that make these high powered, slick looking pc's target gamers. But it is definitely true about game machines. I just bought Unreal 2, and the minimum requirements to play this game are a 1.2Ghz+, 300 MB ram, 64 MB or higher agp video card. (this is to play it at high resolution.) I am just above that and cant play it at full resolution or it sqawks out when the screen gets too busy. Essentially the games right now are ahead of the hardware. |

Reason 1. Mattboy was huffing paint. Reason 2. Mattboy was huffing paint again. ... Reason 1000. Mattboy huffed paint for the 1000th time, finally reaching his daily quota and allowing himself to tolerate the pain that comes with using a Gateway. Seriously, I have a Gateway, and I can't wait to get something new. Pganguly: yeah. Macs would be good for gaming. If they had, you know.... what's it called? Oh yeah. A right click button. Yeah. That's it. I dunno about you guys, but I am in fact a gamer, and I enjoy the words "POWERFUL GAMING MACHINE" on the side of my computer's box. :D Now i just need a bucket filled with ice implemented into my computer. Then I could keep it from overheating/refrigerate a Bawls nearby, all at the same time. |

You can get a two button mouse for Macs and use it just like you would on a PC. And the new G5 system will be pretty damn close to the PC machines, if it doesn't surpass it. The problem with the Mac game market is that there just aren't many games for it. And when they do get a game, it's a couple of years after the PC crowd got it, and people have probably already lost interest in online play with that game, etc. The Mac just really isn't an option if you are a hardcore computer game player, regardless of its speed or how many buttons the mouse has.

Part of the problem is the Mac is a RISC based architecture, which requires a lot for developers to port the games to macs, so for financial reasons companies just figure they wont sell that many in the whole scheme to make it worthwhile. PC's and Macs are totally different machines. The new Darwin BSD kernel will help the Macs get their foot in the door for all sorts of applications and markets (server, webserver, etc.) But I am reluctant to say games. As it is, there arent a lot of games ported for BSD, even using Linux emulation or WINE (but most Mac OSx users probably dont know they can run Linux emulation or WINE under there OS, or the multitude of ports for BSD.) But the games that do run on *nix, run a lot faster than for the PC.... Well, my experience running a UT server on Mandrake. It was soooo fast!.... but I will stop digressing this thread.....
