Well, I've finally decided to actually start my own design "business" just for the sake of trying it. Anyway, I'm kinda lost on how a client would pay you through PayPal. I've already signed up for the account and now ... I'm kinda lost on what to do with my account.

I haven't finished the site for my "business" yet. I actually just started working on it today so not much is done.

P.S. If any of you guys have some promo tips I can use, I'd be more than happy to hear them. :D

You can set up a business account with PayPal (no extra charge.) and have direct linking from your site or a clients page that will direct them to pay you. But I believe your client has to be sigend up with PayPal as well in order to pay you. But I have been lost in another world these last few and dont know diddly anymore =)

PayPal has been fine with my vbskinz.com site (although the amount of fraud has gone up lately). And I still need to find another credit card processor as a second option. Basically for clients just have them use the "send money" feature to your paypal email account. That is what I do with advertisers and clients sometimes...

Its an online transaction service. If you use Ebay at all, you'd be familiar with PayPal.

Is there a way that they are able to pay with using a credit card? Or do I need something special for that ...

PayPal is very beneficial for those who want to pay via credit card. They can pay using any credit card and they can pay you from any country in the world, in their currency transferred to the currency of your country. All major credit cards are accepted.

It's pretty easy to use, and you can start by creating a business account which isn't too difficult and will not incurr any charges. Eventually you will have to tie up your bank account to your PayPal account which facilitates processing monies in your PayPal account to your bank account, which is free of charge to transfer and takes about 3 business days. However, there are other methods for which you may be charged (such as requesting your PayPal funds to be sent by check in the mail). The only other free method is to use PayPal as a separate bank "type" account and apply for their debit card so you can use it like a bank's debit card without placing your bank account on file.

I go for the bank account transfer. I've used PayPal for online auctions in the past 3.5 years and have had no problem. Their user's agreement has been updated so you may want to read the fine print and get it all down.

PayPal also allows you to use thier buttons to display on your website informing people that you accept PayPal. You can also sign up with PayPal to have your business name added to their search engine for PayPal Shops and have your name come up, which is also free of charge. So whatever category you're in, the business name comes up...not too bad for free submission. But this is only on PayPal's search engine for their shops.

Now back to your initial question. When dealing with credit cards, be sure to check on the status of the client once payment is submitted. What I mean by that is that you can see how many other "verified" PayPal members they've paid before and how long they have been a PayPal member. I've had some folks sign up on the same day and try to pay me a large amount of money with shady emails, so I decline payment. Yet it's different with me, because I sell physical goods. My guess is that you'll be either offering downloads or shipping a disk or CD with work, which will then put you into the physical goods category. But if you're dealing with a client one to one, no problem, their need to use PayPal may be minimal. So just keep an eye out for some of the finer details and you'll be cool.

You'll also want to check out Payko. This is a great alternative to PayPal and you can find them at www.payko.com which allows a client to pay with his/her PayPal account at Payko, which turns it into a money order. So you get a money order instead of instant transfer, which I highly recommend of the client is contacting you via email and seems somewhat shady. This way you can wait for the money order to arrive and ship them their CD or disk, and/or email them the link.

So as you may notice, the client would need to have a PayPal account to send you money, and you can, of course, tell them how it's free and all of the benifits they would have, plus if they sign up and plug you in as the one who recommended them, you get 5 bucks for every new client you send to PayPal. And of course your money is redeemed when you transfer $100.00 from your bank account to your PayPal account.

Why must it be this way? My guess is that PayPal gets more out of it and gets your bank account connected to them which alleviates some of the fears of fraud and in turn creates trust on PayPal's behalf for it's users. But I'm sure you'll be good to go and I wish you the best in your business endeavors and plenty of success!

Hope this helps you some.

Cheers!
