I have heard from a reliable source, who does tons of image editing with large files 100+mb in size that macs are useless.. especially when it comes to maintaining the system.. however I still want one.

Hmm...i'm not working on a project with my little planet. I'm going to gradually cover it completely with dark clouds as an anti-polution advertisement aimed at car companies and governments. Will look very good in an interview! Now all i need is time...:(

a question on how stable something is not relivant anymore. both osx and winxp and win2k for that matter are just as good as the other. it is merely preference on what you want. but from those benchmarks it seems that intels hyperthreading is doing its job and has taken the lead over g4 who did have the lead for a while back. and that dell that they used isnt even closest to the fastest out there. the good thing about pcs is that they are so upgradable with millions of hardware choices. which does kill the idea of owning a mac for a lot of people. just keep your computer clean of crap and it will run fine and not crash. uptime for weeks and weeks is easily done on any of the newer oses.

master of the obvious here... design for the web? - use a windows machine, or expect to run into difficulties. Although, programs such as the new Dreamweaver are changing that for Mac users. design for print? - use a Macintosh, or expect to run into difficulties. Printed, color accuracy is impossible on PC. Don't try to tell anyone otherwise. doing it all on a budget? - get and iMac or a Windows machine, just don't get a Compaq. Yuck. (Personally, the 3 Compaqs I've worked with were extraordinarily wothless). The newest versions of iMac are pretty great, and OSX is by far the most stable Operating System on the market. Younger designers and people just getting into the industry - I'd recommend and iMac with lots of RAM. You won't be sorry. So, read your benchmark tests all you want, none of them will hold a candle to experienced testimonials. There's mine. Take it or leave it. |
