bleah...did some browsing at the "axis of justice" and its far worse than any pro-war propaganda i've read, greatly skewed and inaccurate for the most part. and they've got links to great stories like "Several major American anti-war organization are calling for all people opposed to the U.S. war in Iraq to join in actions of civil disobedience, to try to stop the war from taking place." and info on how to help. geez, wonderful guys. our military is taking part in an action you don't agree with so what should you do...ooh, i know, let's tick off people here at home! that'll help them understand where we're coming from! you can't fault those anti-war folks for not thinking logically, that's for sure... i think mihai has a valid point too, those SO concerned about what's going should probably realize at this point that we're not simply going to up and leave, useful actions like working to support humanitarian aid might be an idea. then again, the week after the war is done those same folks will find the next exciting cause to support. (fyi, one of the news sites had an interesting article a few weeks ago on the different groups that back anti-war protests...anyone know that almost every one of those groups links back to a communist or marxist funded supporter?)

as far as "clear and present danger", is saddam really an immediate threat? probably not immediately, no. but what if we DIDN'T do anything? he's invaded another country before, used chemical weapon's on his own people, committed genocide in his own country on other groups, and according to the weapon's inspectors has not provided sufficient evidence that he has ceased production of chemical or biological weapons. if that doesn't make you worry about what could happen...

If the US pulls out now, wouldn't that severly taint our global image... then other countries will follow suit and disobey the UN like Iraq.

The US disobeyed the UN. Don't you guys seriously understand that?

And the "global image" of the US is so tainted already it's sick.

yes, we understand that. and tho i may not entirely agree, the UN wasn't doing jack. the security council would not pass any action with a deadline, a deadline guaranteeing things that should've happened 10 years ago according to a UN resolution that all the countries voting against any action ratified. the UN agreed that iraq was to be disarmed 45 days after the end of the gulf war and hasn't been able to confirm that any of that has happened. heck, iraq has already shot missiles at allied forces that they "don't have". do you understand that?

What you're failing to realize, my friends is that the UN would never ratify anything that resembled aggression on anyones soil. They can't. It goes against their basic charter. They are there to protect the soveriegnty of individual nations. That CAN'T declare war. They've done a few 'peacekeeping' actions, but nothing that resembles force. So, anything that would bring about the end of anyone's regime (no matter how evil the dictator) would never be ratified. You're silly for even talking about the UN in terms that imply any authority or responsiblity. The can only 'advocate' someone stop the inhumanities, or stop invading their neighbors. They are the embodiment of political rhetoric.

malibu is right, the UN can't wage war or stop it, obviously. I do think it's a good forum for the world to say up yours to America though. They got that message accross, but we're far to arrogant of a country to notice it. I could go on and on, but I... wait - I will!

Anyone catch the new Adbusters magazine? Look at the back cover. It's got a photo of a dead, decayed, crispy SOLDIER holding a gun. The caption said "I had to take this photo so my mom wouldn't think war was what she saw on TV." - bravo.

Why do you think so many people got pissed off when Iraq took POW's? (I did, too, for the record) - we actually were convinced that the coalition forces were going to be able to walk right on in a Middle Eastern country and take it - and it's only resource in a snap. Hell, no. The Iraqi militia are religiously fanatic to the extreme - 2 examples: One, duh. they love Saddam, and two, they don't care if they die - some actually look forward to it! How do you ratify a scenario like that - where your bombs and guns do NOTHING?

And, Fig - what the Axis of Justice does is spread awareness. I think they like to ruffle (your) feathers enough to make people aware that not everyone shares your point of view. That's what makes this country great - the freedom to have and express opposing views and the freedom to choose your own. I agree with you on one thing though - the anti-war march is exactly what the US government wants. A humongous distraction. So, march away - you're not accomplishing $h!t.

play fair! Love,
