Today a new semester as begin at my college (graphic design), and as usual they made some annoying changes that no one like!!!

This time they changed the network... and switch to windows 2000.

All these problems come out today...

- Photoshop (and Illustrator) is very slow... and buggy
- Quark does not work at all
- Zip drivers seem not be to working... drivers maybe...
- No one can print
- New print limit: 50 sheet for the whole semester (15 weeks) We will last 3 weeks max)
- We can’t get fonts from the web (and we are stuck with windows fonts only)
- The teachers can’t log in the network
- We can't save on the hard drive (Need to work form the zip or the slow network
-Saving a file on our user account take up to 20 minutes

Finaly... dont kill me... kill this freaking network administrator!!!!

I bet that once all these bugs are ironed out you'll notice a vast improvement. Windows 2000 is built for networks, and from past experience, having a reliable network in school is vital to your sanity. Definatly alot of the problems are driver related.

1. Slow PS and Illustrator - Simply a network issue right now. A new OS wont slow the programs down, especially if its an upgrade.

2. No printing - More driver/network issue. Easily fixed.

3. New print limit: 50 sheet for the whole semester (15 weeks) We will last 3 weeks max) - Well, I admit its nice to be able to print and see your work, but in the real world you will face much tougher constraints then this. Get used to them.

4. We can’t get fonts from the web (and we are stuck with windows fonts only) - If this really is a credible design class I have to believe that they have Adobe Type 1 fonts installed. Anything you can download from the web is best left at home at this point in your career. Learn proper typography first before you need the latest grunge font.

5. All the others I missed can easily be fixed by your NetAdmin. Give it a few days. They need to see whats wrong before it can be fixed.

I had the same issues my first week of classes back in the day. After a week everything was smooth. And this was all new computers and a whole new network and software. Just bear with it. :D

Ooohhhh pour some more salt on the open soars.... Well its bad enough that Apples couldnt develope a superior OS and relied on a linux kernel.

jking. You might need to end this before another long winded no end flame of mac versus pc comes in....

well a lot of PDA use windows CE. so i guess those double rule.

yah looks like your schools admins have no clue what they are doing. they need to get with the program. my school runs mac, windows, and unix all on same servers with no problems.

Show me a college that doesn't have bad network admin's...

And why wouldn't it be bad, for a whopping $5.00/hr part time job and/or 2 credits - gets you some really good help!

sorry Delisk, consider it a warm up for the "real" world after college - you would cringe if you could see the crap I have to work on. (let's just say this: I'm jealous of your situation!)

hang in there, pal!
