Avoiding a long and drawn out explaination on how pointless it is, I'll sum it up quickly:

No.
What I really want to know is if anyone knows of a way that i can build/install a programme that will let me put all my files onto my server and then download them when i need to change them?
What I am wondering is why he asks this and initially says no to FTP. After all, that's exactly what an FTP program does.

Now that I think about it, I would just use FTP if I were you. Unless I wanted something integrated with my site, etc. where I would want to make a form upload script. But you dont want to worry about that - just pick up an ftp program and use that.

And can someone tell me how do you use ftp as a protocol in a web browser? Its pathetic that I dont know, but I dont. Do you have to login? Or give permissions? Sign up? (Like ftp://myserver/myfile.txt.)

Using php to upload you might run into a problem because most hosts leave the max upload file size set to default, which is 2MB, and you run into time out issues. So just use ftp, imo.

You're not going to college if you 16... College comes after grades 1-12 =]... FTP is the way to go... if you really HAD to you can use php to prgram a web ftp interface, although sorta worthless...
