Right, I am hoping that i will be going away to college next year, and basically, i will be moving about from place to place alot, so i want to make a resource site where I can put all my School work and Photoshop files and stuff. What I really want to know is if anyone knows of a way that i can build/install a programme that will let me put all my files onto my server and then download them when i need to change them? This would be a great help Thanks Marc |

Just use an ftp to upload and download what you need?

If you have a Mac, the .Mac service would be ideal. It gives you 100 megs of space on Apple's servers, and syncs automatically to your Macs. You can also access it from a Windows machine. If that isn't an option though, FTP would probably be the easiest. |

You could build a simple upload/download script so that you dont need FTP to download your files. Just an upload script, then it directs to a page where all the files are sorted by extension or something. And you could password-protect it so that nobody else could download or upload. .psd files get pretty large sometimes, though, so that might not be the best choice for them.

No, I meant space. I think you'd be surprised how fast a webhost server gets filled up with .psd files.

How is clicking on a file and instantly beginning the download or upload process clunky? I mean windows even comes with a built in facility to enable it! What would seem bizzare is building your own system to do a job that is already catered for. I think my concern is the same as trhaynes, it will also be a drag uploading hundreds of meg. To be honest the easiest method will be to burn cd's, you can always get re-writable media. |
