I'd say learn HTML and probably do your site in pure html/dhtml, because flash interfaces are sometimes difficult to load, and many times not user friendly. You can still get plenty of flash effects with java, dhtml etc. Just learn how to crawl before you walk.

HI there,

I have a few question to ask, first of all what is the different in designing webpage in dreamweaver and photoshop and how do u preview it in your browser if you are using photoshop plus how do you link your page to the next? I'm really confused on whether it is the best to design in dreamweaver or photoshop which I find it very useful in web design.

Pls enlighten me further
Thank u

Photoshop is a design and graphics program. As such, it is great for creating complex designs and/or graphics. And, while you can create designs for web pages in Photoshop, it does not let you create web pages itself.

DreamWeaver is an HTML editing tool. It is used specifically for creating and building web pages. It has no graphic capabilities (paint brushes, etc). And, since you asked, DreamWeaver is where one sets hyperlinks to go to "next" pages.

If you are just doing single graphics in Photoshop, then use its "Save For Web" feature to output a JPEG or GIF. Then you can import that graphic into DreamWeaver.

Or, if you want to design web pages in Photoshop then you need to "convert" that design to a web page. For this you have a couple of options:

1. Photoshop comes with ImageReady. ImageReady can be used to slice up your Photoshop design into web ready pieces. It will also let you set up buttons and assign hyperlinks. ImageReady is labor intensive and a lot of web developers don't like the HTML that it writes.

2. Fireworks is Macromedia's competition to Photoshop. Fireworks can be used like ImageReady above. It creates slightly better HTML and has more web features than ImageReady.

3. PhotoWebber come from Media Lab (where I work). It does the same work as ImageReady, but does the slicing for you. It has far longer "reach" into web features than either Fireworks or ImageReady.

Once a design is "converted" it consists of one or more HTML files and bunch of .gif and .jpeg files. The packages above will let you set up hyperlinks, buttons with rollovers, and more, so if your page isn't aggressive then you are done.

Otherwise, take the HTML and graphics output from those packages and open it in DreamWeaver. Here you can either "finish" out the document - add forms, fancy behaviours, etc. or simply include it into the fold of your other web pages (which perhaps aren't so graphcially intense).

Anyway, I went on a little long and breezed by a couple of topics, but hopefully this helps a bit.
