DUde, is your voodoo 3 a pci card? Cause if it is.. Then 8 megs is used for 2d stuff, the rest for 3d. If I'm not wrong here..

Oh ya, avoid the new Nvidia GF4 series, get the new Radeon cards, much more superior IMO.

what the hell.. how did you get a 3dfx card to work for opengl ?
thats soo whack, you must have opengl wrappers or something :|
but best o my knowledge voodoo cards are 100% 3d so if you can work on that tnt ;) then you'd have like the ultimate show down

Voodoo cards are for opengl or Glide, whatever they call it. Anyways, 3dfx has been sold to Nvidia. Get a Radeon, you wont' be disappointed.

I don't know about voodoo's using half the memory for 2d and half for 3d. aren't they just accelerators? by that i mean you have to have a 2d card, and a 3d card.

i dunno....

but yeah, they use glide, which most new games don't use anymore, which may be why you are having trouble getting newer games to run. just get a radeon. they are only $400!

heh ... i was thinking of an MSI 64MB gfc4 ti 4200. comes with three full games and is at the stunning low price of $135...or was it $165...either way it's < $400. i don't know, i'll probably read up on more cards if i end up replacing this loaner.

heh sorry sidez i didn't see what u said about radeon, and to stay away from gfc4 series. i'm a junky however....
HotHardware .
I got the voodoo to work w/openGL b/c HL has those 3dfx minidrivers, and i had to dl the "amigamerlin v.2.1" or something...
well as of now, the 64MB gfc4 ti 4200 seems to be the best value, AND it comes w/ three FULL games. ooo NOLF (first one :(), and a few other games i don't recognize...hehe. but if someone can convince me otherwise...but FIRST:

lemme check to see if i udnerstand these numbers:

64MB, 32 MB, 16 MB, 128 MB is the MEMORY for the card? so like how much it can hold like RAM/cache?

core speed/clock speed would be how fast it runs internally, and how fast it communicates w/ the mobo? not really sure about this one....
Default Core / Memory Clock Speeds: 250MHz / 500MHz

Dual-Monitor Support = Yes

TV-Out = Yes

Video-In / Video Out (ViVo) = No

and what's VIVO?

thanks

i kinda n00b at putting together my own system still...so i was wondering if you knowledgible fellows could check this out:
http://slugocity.webimpulse.net/neweggreceipt.gif
i'm pretty sure it's all compat w/ eachother and WinXP....but just to make sure. also, will my current HP cd-writer plus, and CD drive and A:/ work on the new mobo?
the 128 MB gfc4 is currently out of stock :( but you here's some specs for those interested: http://www.newegg.com/app/specification.asp?item=14-127-049

[edit] heh...i used to go to [H] a long time ago, but that was before i knew anything about computers. if u asked me SCSI, i'd think u were talking about a pokemon. but that place is crazy...always so busy.
