1200 Americans killed in iraq. 3000 Americans killed by osama bin laden. 40000000 Americans killed by abortionists. Who is the real enemy of Americans?
I am all my baby seal clubbing, baby eating, and kitten killing got me off on the wrong foot. It was all downhill from there. So now I'm the real enemy. |

i don't think the population problem boils down to a lack of food or even a lack of resources. sustainability is finally being recognized as a real issue that everyone and not just environmentalists have to deal with; there are already lots of solutions, minor or otherwise, in the works (massive change). what we are lacking is balance. people are starving due to the unequal distribution of resources.
But you hold religious values yourself, everyone does.
Now are you talking about normal values and moral principles? If so, what makes you think it came from religions? Religions are human creations, just like our values. Religions didn't invent them, but they sure used them to their befenits. By the way, I'm not saying this, because I'm against abortion. Have you ever seen that the people against it are mainly males? No wonder why... Their isn't too much people on Earth. I heard there was enough ressources for about 10 billions of us, but that is if we manage to distribute them equally to everyone. North Americans consume WAY too much ressources and that's a major problem. We gotta lower our energy needs, but that needs a little effort. Kyoto is the beginning of this effort, but it'll need alot more then that. |

"If everyone lived like Americans, then you’d need three planet Earths to sustain that level of consumption." (Peter Raven, Botanist and Conserv. Source: March 2004 Nat. Geo p. 90). True, the resources may be available in the planet, but, the amount we can dish out is limited, plus exploiting those resources can be disastrous to the Earth as a whole. Unless Americans and citizens of industrialized nations are willing, the majority of whom are not, to sacrifice the resources (energy, food, water, et al.) we have for ourselves by at least three-fold, we’re not going to make any progress.

i don't think the massive change link is working, but it's an exhibit happening at the vancouver art gallery (although it's not about art). one of it's focuses was on the positive development of synthetic, bio-degradable/reusable materials in the hopes of leaving behind our dependence on the earth's natural resources. if money weren't an issue (and it always is), consumption would only be a problem in terms of quality and not quantity (i.e. everyone could consume as much as they wanted, if only recyclable material, instead of waste were produced - a closed cycle/system). i didn't realize there was so much being done until i had actually gone to the exhibit, so too bad about the website. sorry, i know this thread started out about abortion.. i'm a she by the way and pro-choice.. a fence-sitter - i just couldn't tell you if i think abortion is universally right or wrong. would i get one - probably not (but for reasons other than morality/religion) and i'm not qualified to tell other people what's right/wrong for them, they should be allowed to make their own (and hopefully informed) decision though, without all the anti-abortion pressure. |
