"But who needs that much space anyway?"

That's as short-sighted as saying "Who needs 1gb of hard drive space?" a few years ago when the norm was 200-400mb. Or even longer ago when they were measured in Kilobytes.

Well...kinda. But regular, text only emails are about 2kb-6kb average. Depends on how much you write. I don't think you would want to wade through 250,000 emails (if they are all 4kb). It's safe to say for most users, TONS of that space will go unused. I'll bet they could get just as many 'excited users' if they said they were offering 100 MB.

The whole marketing ploy is that you'll never have to delete another email. Yes, it's more than most people will need. That's also why they are giving 1,000mb away. Only about 5% of the people that use the service will actually use anywhere near that much. So they can make themselves look a ton better than the competition by offering orders of magnitude more storage space, but most people will never even use it so it won't cost them much more than what the guys that are offering 2mb spend.

And if you have 250,000 emails, you use the search function to find one you want, just like using Google to find a document in the billions of pages on the internet.

In 5 years you will probably think 1gb of email is hardly anything.

Oh yeah baby!!!!!!!!!

I just got my GMail account. Deker, thanks a million man for showing us the link to the GMail swap. Some guy contacted me from London and hooked it up for 2 web advertising banners that I'm going to create for him. That was my offer.

I got to pick the name I wanted and all....oh yes!

*the crowd goes wild*

Thank you, thank you, thank you very much...

Cheers!

Hmmm...I got one for free from a good friend ;). I think I can invite two people now. I have the 'Invite a friend to join Gmail!' option, but when I click it, nothing happens.
