I am designing a CD cover for someone. I think he is releasing his demo of some sort and I wanted to know what you guys think of this? I have never done any CD cover artwork before so this is a challenge for me. This one is actually only an example but I am thinking that it can be used. It is not entirely finished but you get the idea. What do you guys think? Any ideas? Suggestions?

Also he is asking me for pricing...he is willing to pay me! How much should I charge him?

Thanks

Hmm, the microprint [on the first CD cover] seems out of place. It seems like an attempt of bringing in a little of trendwhore and a little grungy feeling, although it's not flawlessly executed.

The text really needs some work on it, it has to somewhat capture the consumer's eye. Umm, for the back... maybe track numbers...

And for price, I have no idea. I do graphics as a time killer and a hobby, and lately I became a critic of my own work so nothing new ever comes up (aside from pixel art).

Does the look of the CD cover convey the feel and type of music this guy does? If he does techno or jungle or is a rave DJ or something like that, it's OK. If he does hip-hop, or jazz, or rap (or even heavy metal for that matter), it's not even close. Take away the guy's picture and his name... what does the cover convey now? If I saw this in the store, I'd be inclined to think that it's house/rave/techno/jungle etc... So if that's what he does, then I think you have successfully conveyed his style.

Bottom line... if he likes it, then charge him what you think is fair and you're done.

Tell him you will be taking royalties :D ...

Just kidding. On the front cover picture and the back cover rectangles, the parts that are well defined do not match. Everything looks nice and smooth, and then you have a sort of ragged front picture and the back has a sharp Wind filter on it... You may want to not oversharpen the picture and to blur the lines a bit...
