I would say white.... make it look more grungy IMO!?

but yeah, you could let the visitor choose like Dx^2 said :D
But maybe instead of making a whole splash page whit it maybe put it somewhere on the page.. maybe in one of the corners??

Hard descision. The black of course always contrasts red and they just look good together. If the theme of your work is usualy a dark evil feel, definatly black. The white is cool looking too, and it comes out looking a little more artsy. I think black is the best.

thanks for all the input guys....i think i might go with the white but have make it so the user can choose...thanks for all your input....

sidefx - yeah im going to make it expandable....this whole layout is just something that i wiped up in like 10 minutes...just becuase i had nothing to do....i might finish it and i might not....
