I made this label for a company that just got an approval to put the qualifier "ecological" on their products. Apparently it's a big deal - they had to go through all these tests and stuff before they were allowed to say their products are ecological. Anyway - they make honey and a lot of other bee related stuff - wax, royal jelly and so on..

oh yeah - this is what I started from - sketch

they wanted something "traditional ... like they made it in the old days" so - I drew this beehive like they used to make them at the beginning on the century.

They're going to sell a lot of honey to the UK (tons of the stuff) - that's why the label is in English.

Don't know how much print stuff you have done before for Ident's etc.. but lose the bees that are floating around the hive. they are not strong enough to attract to the scheme but small enough to detract.

In truth I am not overly fond of the Apanaria typeface or the Ecological Honey & Bee....face. They are not bad faces and I see your purpose in choosing them. My suspicion is that they are free fonts and even if that is not the case then they are a little rough and ready for my taste.

I suppose the last element to consider is the colours. I can see the logic in the honey/beige coloured parts but fail to see the logic in choosing the green that you have. I am not sure as to what it represents or even the intended interpretation.

I also have to question your use of the deckled grass, it may not print that well, or at least make the process a little trickier. On reflection I may be tempted to have gone with the a spot colour for the sun and the outer line in the colour of the sun.

The green is probably for the ecological part. I think you should drop the bees, make the green rolling hills a straight curve rather than grassy and the type face is kind of hard to read. It's italiscized by default and when it's on a curve it just throws it out of whack.

... indeed I haven't made a lot of stuff for print.

hermit - the green is as moo said - for the ecological part. It's also intended to depict vegetation and the "fresh" nature of the product.
- I have one process color and 3 spot colors.. I only have 4 colors in all so I don't think they'll be an issue.
- totally agree about the grass - I got carried away - I removed the grass and left just a curve for the hill.
the fonts - I'll tweak the Apinaria a little to make it less italicized but other than that...the owner is really pleased with the typefaces. The "Apinaria" is a manual modification of a "Cretino" font.
- the floating bees will have to stay. They are "the life of the party" as the owner put it The label will not be very small and once the "Apinaria" name will be fixed it might even get a little better in terms of legibility

Thanks for the good advice and comments guys.
