Hey, This is a logo I made for Druid Design, a graphics design company that I am starting pretty soon. Please critique it. It is just a logo, not a header for my website or anything. The colors might change, I'm not sure quite yet. The leftmost 'D' is infact negative space, so it won't always be white. I might make the logo white, and have dark background colors for the site. Druid Design Blue Logo Edit: I tried the white logo on blue background, and liked it. Here is that. Druid Design White Logo |

OKay, I can see it now, hmmm...it looks good but I don't know why the extension of the color to the second "D" throws me off. The way it extends behind the first "D" makes it look like it really has nothing much to do with the concept of the logo or the name, which I assume is "Druid Design" Maybe adding a bit more to it like trying to visually present design in a concept form. I mean, think of the word "design" and about how you can put that into a visual view for "druid". Aside from this it's pretty nice in that it's simple and clean and carries some visual side that makes you remember the logo. But maybe play a bit more on it and see if you can come up with something a bit more revised. Anyone else have two more cents to ad? |

I was kind of thinking what you were. The first 'D' stands out, and the second one kind of looks like just something in the background. "Maybe adding a bit more to it like trying to visually present design in a concept form. I mean, think of the word "design" and about how you can put that into a visual view for "druid". " Could you explain more what you mean by this? I'm not sure I understand fully. Thanks for your comments. EDIT: I just looked at the white logo on a blue background again. That doesn't seem to be case for this version. On the white logo/blue background version, it seems like both letters get equal attention. This leads me to think maybe it has to do with the colors. What do you think? |

I hesitate to answer this thread for fear of being rude or offending unnecessarily. I think the biggest problem you may have is not your logo but your company name. I have no problems with druids or associated and I imagine no-one else will. My concern is centred on the name as being limited and non associated with web design. How did you come upon this name? Is it an established business or is it new? (if new it's not such a kick in the teeth to change it), of course if established already then ignore me and spit in my face ;) As for direct critique on what you have.... It's not suck-ass (a technical term I believe) but it is a little generic. By that I mean that when someone first thinks of a logo for their business, one of the first things they think of is linking letter forms. I hate the phrase (it really IS suck-ass) but think outside the box (the most hated phrase in my life next to, "you don't have to be a rocket scientist) still, my point stands ;) |

I am by no means offended. I am glad you mentioned this, as I'm always open to suggestions. This is a new business, so I agree, I could easily change it. "My concern is centred on the name as being limited and non associated with web design." Could you explain more on that? What do you mean its non associated with web design? If I name the company Druid Web Design, that basically limits me to one thing-web design. Do you have any suggestions? If you do, I'd be glad to hear them. Thanks. |
I was kind of thinking what you were. The first 'D' stands out, and the second one kind of looks like just something in the background. " Could you explain more what you mean by this? I'm not sure I understand fully.
Let me try to explain a bit more on this. When I'm saying to put the concept of design in a visual way, is this. Whatever it is you're catering to, be it print, media, web design, or any other type of work, think of that concept as a whole and try to zero in on a visualization of that concept. For instance, if I were starting a trucking company, I'd think about cargo, or merchandise being transferred from one side of town or state to another. That would be the core concept of my business, it's what I want people to get when they see my logo. So the task would be to put that core concept into a visual logo and have it hit the viewers to say...."Oh, wow, I see it!" That makes a logo memorable in many ways. So maybe if you tried to aim at your core concept and see how you can make it visual would be great. Hope this clarifies a bit more. |

Not to say that your logo is bad, the one with the blue background kind of looks like a jersey logo or a sport type thing :p
