The first one, it has a consistant color scheme. The blue/green doesn't mix well with the red you have lower down. Maybe on the second one, you could make his arm the blue/green color and it would look better.

I'm not a big fan of this but it's much better than the first you showed...
Now I can actually see what it is i'm looking at.
Now leave the microscopic text, people used year 2000 as trendwhore and it will be even better

... but i love my microscopic text..

I've been hanging out there a lot lately. They're pretty straight-forward with their critiques and/or praise. but the head is an illusion. believe it or not but it's made out of a small airplane panel image. I was working on something else and by accident made a strange effect so I cut it out and went to town with a lot of brushes and color dodging (purephotoshop.net is great for teaching realistic color dodging). The eyes and eyebrow structure are pure color dodging also. It's not blended as well in the brighter version--I still need to work on it.
