i was assigned a 2 page magazine spread with an open topic for my portfolio class. so, i did it on drum n bass history (since i've been listening to it allot lately) and came up with >> this << . the text and photos are really just a place holder since i wasn't given anything. thanks for any comments. |

Looks great... I can't really explain what I find wrong... best explanation would be that it is a little "flat"... know what I am saying?

[QUOTE=Chrisz0rz]Looks great... Real nice use of grayscale, Krane. Many folks are dead-lost if they have their color taken away from them. For a two page spread, it's pretty well visually balanced. BUT...The whole thing looks Index-colored or posterized; did you plan for that or is it the result of web compression? Suggestion? If you're gonna post something like this, it should be a high-byte PDF so we can zoom in and check out details. Maybe a low-byte image like you have already provided for slowband viewers, and a fatdata link to those of us who have the monsterfast. |

my favorite part of the piece is the stereo circle thangs. are they supposed to have a smidge of an element of cartoonishness or cellshadingness to it? because that's how it appears to me, and it looks awesome. possibly that is what utope was mentioning but i think it adds to the picture rather than taking away from it. for some reason i dont dig the slight transparency so that the stereos can be seen behind the page, but maybe that's not a big deal. otherwise, great job. |

"The New Generation of Sound" could do with some refinement. I would guess that the white text should not be showing above the New Generation face. Just as an aside too, not sure how necessary they are for you in your assignment, but cropmarks would help the piece feel more like a magazine and provide that 'contempory look'. |

I really like the texture given to the "Drum 'N' Base" portion of the page. I really dig the chalky contour, and those weird suction cup/tubes/wires (even if I don't know what they are). Qucik question.. If it's a two page piece, wouldn't you need to crop that considerably? I assume you would crop the right side to conform to the size of the paper ("The New Generation of Sound"). But if you kept that same size for the left hand size, you'd lose a portion of Drum 'N' Bass (noo!). |

I think it kicks @$$, the only detrimental comment I can make is that you might want to add some white space in the middle for binding of the magazine (unless it would be a crappy stapled job). I think it is excellent work. |
