The lips look much better, and I think improve the piece as a whole. There's something about the hair that bothers me though, I think it's the fact that their overlaping each other, and making one weird head of hair...

i work with illustrator lil bit but i mean these are great...

Well I don't exactly know how to explain how.
You can right click and zoom in to see the details how I've done it if that helps.
Mostly I just start with the head "background" and then work my way up, making shadows and highlights.
That's about all there is to it.
