Photo Manipulation

Hey there, I haven't been here in a while. Anyways I tried some photo manipulation last night (with a picture of my girlfriend and a friend's). It's my first attempt at this, so I'd like any pointers. I know that a few things need some improvement, but I'd like suggestions as well. Thanks for any replies.

The second is just a touch more sloppy than the first, since I was trying to get to bed. I also added some scanlines because I think they're cool. Anyhow, thanks for any responses.

nice job skin tones look better on them, scanlines...eeeh they are ok but good job for a first time
