Maybe try to get some more extreme angles in those shots. When youre shooting a grind, make sure that the ground isnt in the picture, so that the viewer infers that the rail is higher than it actually is. The more extreme the angle, the more difficult the trick looks IMO - maybe try it. And look in some skate magazines for the advertisements and other pictures - see if what Im talking about makes any sense at all. :D tom |

Yup i have to agree with trhaynes on this one. You have some awsome skaters and you could get really nice shots of them. Well I'm not sure what your going after... If you are trying to show people tricks, like how exactly they are doing those tricks it's good but if you are going for some nice photographs you should do something different than just standing beside them and shooting... I think it would rock if you took a photo with the focus point a bit infront of the skater so that the skater would get a bit blurry. I buy a lot of snowboard magazines and the guys who shoot those photos for the magazines really are the best you should look a closer look how they've done it. But yeah. Those photos are still nice :P |

thanks, The thing is.. you rteally do need a bit of perspective in the picture.... that is why i always try to get the floor in.... it is sort of like an etiquette :D but i think i should try to get some different angles and stuff.. normally i just get a picture of the rail and the skater but i think with someof them im starting to change And to tom... i did actually shoot for a rollerblading magazine called unity once but because of the resolution.... it came out bad in print :( THANKYOU all for the comments... i appreciate them greatly and will take some pictures as you said Thanks MArc |

I dunno - just imagine a picture from the ground of a skater against the blue sky, with the rail right beneath his feet, maybe some trees in the distance. Then when you add the ground, you take away the surrealism that you had before. Plus the ground is often dirty, etc. - it makes the trick look a lot less "big" imo. And I was thinking of some PS enhancements, too, like motion blur or gaussian blur the background or something, but I think that might look kinda cheap. 3jorn's idea was a good one, though, if you can get it to work. *shrug* I wish I had some skater friends who wouldnt mind a geek with a crappy camera among them. :D |
