...sorry to post these things so much, but I need comments about this...I'm trying and trying and trying, and some day it's bound to be a li'l improvment to my lightning-reflection kinda stuff, don't you think...So since I'm a total newbie at these things I post a lot and hope to get c&c inorder to improve... (I feel I have improved some btw ;)...) Here goes Blue Oyster Cult The thing itself isn't the issue here, but the lightning and reflection...Now I'm not after total realism here, but mearly a believable lightning-reflection situation... So slap me with it, please... Patric. |

looks like the lightning is coming from the back of the figure but the reflection on the front, you might want to make the light wider at the beginning and smaller end to simulate it coming from the front of the figure rather then the back. Don't know if it'll help but it's worth a try. |

No no, Make the light coming from right->left... since the reflection is right to left, your brain will make more sense of it =]

Hehe, you see. I've got more to learn here. To old brain to make it function it seems. My intent was to have the light coming from the back of it, kind of a direct light on the thing, and that the reflection would simulate a very weak light source from the front to cause that reflection... But that is not what you see at all ? |

no the front reflection is rather intense, and the light is clearly seen. To me it looks like light from the front or left front

you're getting better all the time pat hey - I remember an old exercise from art school regarding lights and shadow....it helps a lot and it doesn't even require PS... take a bit of crispy paper (not a Kleenex) - an plain white A4 sheet should do fine. Crumple it a bit so that it has a lot of wrinkles and stuff then try to smooth it on your desk but not all the way - you have to have wrinkles....and it doesn't have to stay flat. Then shine a torchlight on it from different angles. Then look at it and see the way shadows form...and try to draw them - only the shadows - on another paper. when you're getting good at it you'll see you drew an image of your crumpled paper even if it's just the shadows...- it doesn't take a lot of art to draw some black shapes so anyone can do it. You'll need to start with some fairly large crumples or it will take forever but after a while - you'll see - light & dark areas will come naturally on anything you are drawing. |
