The knackered metal look is just a combination of an original gold mirror image. Then just add a little noise, add a colour balance layer to it, then merge it to the original image. Finally just adjust the levels till it goes a little rough. Thats it really

when i grow up im going to be a wallpaper.

am i not cool if i never use wallpapers, and my screen is always 128, 128, 128 gray?.

i guess it stuck from photography class, and having your eyes surrounded by a neutral colour.
also sometimes i have to match colours for high end press work and having to see this http://www.angrynorth.com/messaround/fresh.jpg in between my desktop and my app, while getting other files, would totally throw your eyes off. i dont like CMYK work, but i do like that is so challenging.

believe me, peopel with barco monitors DONT use wallpapers. but you guys ROCK ON!

in person they matched the aligment on both the monitors, but that was for like a few hours, before i got tired of seeing little bits of hot pink in the background.
also my desktop is always a mess, and i think having birds and bees wouldnt help.
