The balloon is a 3dmax render (with basic colors). All the textures done in photoshop (actually done in photoshop...not done in photoshop and exported to 3dmax). The woman was repainted with photoshop (orig. a poser model...with dress modified in max) Background done in photoshop.

Now for the story lol

Originally it was going to be a freaky scifi thing. She was supposed to be escaping in the balloon and on the ground were going to be skeletons holding the ropes....trying to keep the balloon from taking off. Well i couldnt get the right landscape so i scratched that idea. Then i made a desert background for it which was good...but making convincing pyramids/sand out of photos of dirt and rocks was really hard. So i went back to my original idea (the pic i posted) of just having a sky background. (i threw in some trees later). Only thing is matching the lighting was hard and it came out a bit dark.

Rusty Balloon ~ 155k

I can post the desert pic(it sux) and the original render if anyone is interested.

I actually expected something rather naff from all the almagamation of programs. However I am amazed! it is really good.

I like how the background is sepia toned and noisy and I like how you have carried the noise through to the renders. Also love the rust texture for the ballon basket etc.

I would'nt change a thing, but I might be tempted to try an all sepia toned image and a sepia toned with maybe the female poser figure still coloured.

Nice work anyhow.

what a great idea! lol. Just throw in a couple evil clowns...and a melted ice cream cone in the kids hand...

Im glad it doesnt look too bad. This was a last effort before i freaked out. By the third composition ya kinda get irritated lol

I think i'll let it sit for a while and fine tune it with a fresh eye.

I like it - it's nice
I do have a few observations:
- the baloon texture is not quite baloon - like. It looks like a solid object rather than an elastic thing...
- if you were going for realism - I doubt that thing would ever fly - all that iron - it's a bit too "heavy" for the poor baloon - I mean even as an image it's heavy - not the actual feasibility of the thing...

- also your baloon - nacelle - ensemble has too crisp edges - for extra realism - try and look real close at a regular digital photo - you will see that the edges of things blend with the other objects behind them...try to feather a selection of your object and use the healing brush with a very low opacity, set to "replace" a few pixels...- you'll see it will look more realistic

-you could also try to manually pain some lights on the "strings" that hold your baloon - I can see they cast shadows on the baloon but there's no lighter areas on them - even though they are wide enough ...

it's a nice job though - I can see it took a lot of work.

Yeah there's no realism is in this pic. Its pure scifi/insanity :-). The only way the thing could fly is if i painted on a few rocket boosters.

"crisp edges - for extra realism"
I know what you mean. The hard edges probably came from when i used matting (remove black). Originally i should have rendered with white...that way i could multiply and blend from there.

Its not my best pic...but i love the balloon! Its just so strange.
