Well I think the first one is better...
At least if you are going to use it as a wallpaper...
The second one is too bright...I think that a wallpaper should just be there in the background and not scream "Here I am"!
And I'm not sure why but the creature looks better when it's smaller...
But still a nice piece.

First one, I like the transperecy.

I say the first one...with the second ones BG(the blured streaks...instead of the first ones checkers) with the first ones color.

Have I confused you enough?? lol

But if i had to pick..it would be the first one. The second ones nice but I agree its too bright. If you used it as a desktop....your eyes would begin to hurt after a while.
