Don't mean to piss anyone off with my ignorance, but don't korean symbols each describe a different thing? Like ï would be a cat, and Þ would be a dog? How do you type with those :/

Korean symbols represent sounds, a certain combination of them generate a meaning. Chinese charachters represent meanings. Japanese is a combination, with two sets of alphabet-like charachters and the standard charachters which represent meanings. Regardless of what language you're speaking in, there's always a phonetic equivalent. So basically, if it sounds like it, you type it out in english, and there's an option where you can select which charachter you want to represent it with (depending on the situation).
