You have to go over it manually, either by a lasso or the pen tool. (I recommend the Pen tool to create the paths and then filling the paths). Since you asked if you can sue a filter for it I guess I would have to explain the process. Information on the usage of the Pen tool is available on the TeamPS site. Say you have an image you want to apply that effect to (a portrait is easier because it requires fewer areas to color). You can reduce the total amount of colors to give it that contour look, and then put the color settings back to normal (assuming that you want to use other colors). Now, grab the Pen tool and create a path that goes around an area of solid color, and fill in that area -- a new layer for each color or when applicable -- and repeat the process for every area or you can leave out a few areas in order to give it that drawn look. If you're more comfortable with a lasso tool, you can use that. There is another method that might be easier but wouldn't be as precise as going over it with the Pen or the Lasso. Take the Magic Wand tool and select an area. Then take the Marquee tool and Right-click>Make Work Path>1.0 Pixels>OK. This will create a path that will take on the general shape of the selection. Then just fill in the path normally. Why would you convert the selection to a path instead of just filling it you might ask. By converting the selection a path will give it a more sloppy and smoother look and feel to it, plus if you just filled in the selection you made with the Magic wand tool, it'd be no different from using the reduced-color image. Of course, I won't guarantee that this method would produce the exact result you want to, it all depends on your creativity and the abilities as an artist. |
