Well what I meant by "grunged" is that you use different brushes.
I only have the original brushes that comes with Photoshop 6.0 but there are some really good ones to download...but I haven't been that in to grunge so I haven't downloaded them yet...
And then I tried to make the image more dark...

Very nice.
I like over darkened images and this one stands out quite well.
The only thing I would've added is some variable grain.
