i've been using photoshop for a while, but am just starting to get really serious about it and this is my first post here. anyway...i just made this today, in about half an hour. i'm starting to get the hang of shading and blending colors & all that but i'd like pointers. i made it on a really old version of corel photopaint at my school

it could be better, i know. but is it a good start?

I also like the subtle 'signature' you put on the guy's shirt, at least you know how to put your name on image correctly.

Its so so and since you are starting out I wont be too harsh, but please dont mention again the time it took, are we meant to be impressed that it only took 30 mins if in an hour you could have done a perfect job? (that is what you imply) - however dont take my bollocking to mean that your work is ****, rather let it stand on its own merits

i wasn't implying that if i took an hour it'd be perfect. actually, if i had spent an hour on it, it would have ended up terrible. i stop working once i realize that if i put any more work into it it'll be ruined. i realized a bit too late and used the airbrush a bit too excessively so the shading isn't quite as good as i had hoped it would be, but i'm still just learning the basics of art. i definitely want to take some art classes.
btw, what IS a good way to put writing onto a shirt? or just drawing on another object in general, like tattoos or decals for instance.
thanks all for the feedback

Maybe this ain't the right place to ask questions...
There is a different "room"...
but...my advise would be to try those layer options...
normal, screen, dissolved...and so on...
They might help a bit...
