I am no expert on using paths, but the way I found the easiest was to take some raster graphics and outline them (kind of like the images that Good Christian is working with.) To me the path tool is one of those things that is best understood by doing it. How it works is kind of hard to explain. How the path tools work you could look up in the help files. But someone else might know some good place for tutorials.
