Okay, voice your opinions and you MAY affect my next big purchase (which will happen when I get my next big job)! Nikon D70 vs. Canon EOS 20D I know Graphics Guy shoots a 10D (which is basically the same as the 20D body-wise). I like the magnesium body over the polycarbonate of the D70. And Nikon is... well, NIKON! So, weigh in! I'm obviously confused. My current camera is a Sony DSC-S70 with about $400 worth of lenses and accessories (cost $999 when I bought it). Time to upgrade! Especially since I'm seeing more print work (as opposed to web, which the current 3 MPixel is adequate for). |

Wow, this is a tough one... that new Canon looks sweet if you ask me. 8Megapixel, iso from 100 to 3200, a bigger resolution format, a B&W mode. It's however bigger and a bit heavier then the Nikon. The Nikon has a better LCD screen and is faster though ;) I will surely read more about that EOS 20D... it looks like it has alot of potential. Both camera are the same exact prize, but the 20D is newer... I don't know, cause I don't have enough infos, but it depends on you. Thanks for letting me know though! |

Not trying to advertise, but if you go over to Anti-Cubicle (http://www.anticubicle.com/forum/) there are plenty of great photographers that I know some use a 20d and some use a d70, so go over there and I am sure you will get a TON of great responses.

What are you going to use the camera for? Band photography? Sports photography? I would like the 20d for band photography etc, 3200 gives those nice, noisy, grungy photos. While the nikon seems perfect for sports photography, its indeed a bit faster. I'm not saying you can't shoot sports with the 20d, because the shutterspeeds are the same. The d70 starts up faster though.... are your lenses compatible with either camera? The d70 is cheaper, isn't it? You could go for that and invest in some new lenses. Just a few suggestions. |

I have been doing alot of research about new cameras now. I have been asking about Canon 300d vs. the Nikon d70. And the answers has been nikon d70 like 80%. But then they have said that if they could choose, they woulnd't buy the d70, they would buy the 20d. But it's too expensive for most people. |

NL: They are the same prize. Nikon costs around $1200 without any lense (body only), but the 20D is $1500 with one (tht's what I'm reading at least)

Oh ok! You guys are lucky... The 20d is more expensive here. Than I think I would go for the 20d, I always have the feeling that nikon is somewhat overpriced. Nikon is really good, don't get me wrong, but I think with canon you get more value for your money. |

Not quite right, Oncle... D70 = $1300 w/lens vs. 20D = $1500 w/lens and I don't believe either includes media. I may watch and read for a bit. It's sounding like the 20D is still a little buggy and having 'issues' with the first shipments. Firmware, etc. I've got one Canon AF lens that may work from a 35mm SLR, but no, none of my Sony lenses will translate. I don't expect to be using this for Sports, no. Mostly I would guess portrait, outdoor, and maybe some macro. Work related stuff mostly; then maybe some family stuff for fun--but that will fall into the above categories mostly. |

yeah the AF lens should work, it works on the 300d... So its bound to work on the 20d too I think.
