Hi guys, The tutorial above is brilliant and shows the start of what you can do with actions. Here's a few examples of how we use them for commercial purposes. Our graphic team can make anywhere up to 50 output files a day. So getting a consistency across lots of different files requires constant pre-issue. Now, we use actions to insert registration data points, color bars and confirm sizes so that before it gets to the design mgr, we are positive the file is production ready. We even have an action that sizes important elements down to proof size and removes 'set up' info so that the customer only sees proofing sections. Example, every job you make should include CMYK color bars at the bottom so that the printers have a visual check. Use actions to do this. Opening a new file. We use an action that converts any doc to CMYK. Saving a file, we use an action that resizes a doc 1 step before closing so that the graphic designer can final check their work against the action. (this is done on a common size job we have. The size is 2450mm x 850mm with top trim points, lower mini print for doc archive, auto spacing between next job and flattening the file ready for Tiff Ripping. Creating a background color. If you have multi files with common backgrounds, use an action. Place common eps or logos into position. Resize and transform any 'placed element' even down to a rasterized layer. The guys in the web dept use actions to create a consistency across our website pictures. The more you can learn about recording actions, the better your design work will become. I hope TeamPhotoshop do a few more of 'action' tutorials. Hope it helps, BillyTea. |
