Newbie Flash question... I am fiddling with Flash MX right now and am wondering how I can make the text look sharper in my Flash movie? I am using the default Verdana font at 10pt and it just looks a little *fuzzy*. Not like the same 10pt Verdana font would look in HTML. Turning on kerning for the font didn't seem to change anything. Is this just a limitation of Flash or is there something I am doing wrong to cause this? Is this an issue with just this particular font? An example of what I am talking about can be seen in my *under constuction* page... www.d4design.net (the orange font in the black bar) Thanks for any help. |

Aha Sorry...i knew this one would come up. Flash sucks because you cant make the font aliased and automatically anti-aliases everything. So, what you can do is go to google, type in pixel font + flash or something and download a pixel font made especially for flash. One I downloaded is from http://www.miniml.com/ and they are pretty good. The only thing is that the size really has to be 8 to work, and you may have to move it pixel-by-pixel to actually get it clear. The menu on my site uses them (http://cyblingdesign.com). The other option which will work is to check the 'html text' box (or somthing similar) and your text will become html text. however, if the user does not have Veradana, it might come up as Arial instead. However, most ppl do have verdana, so just tick that box. Any problems, reply. HTH |

you don't have to do any of that, just click on "use device fonts" makes file size a bit larger, but i will give you the clean look you are looking for. Nothing more to it

which is what i said also if you read.. the problem with that is if the user doesn't have your font, it won't be displayed, meaning your font must be Arial, Times, Verdana perhaps. |

here is some more cool pixel fonts. the site is in french. also another fix for crisper fonts is to set the font properties to 'dynamic text', though there is some problems with using dynamic text as buttons. a fix i found for that is to make the text you want to use as a button in PS (setting the anti-aliasing to 'none'), save it as a .png, and import it into Flash. that works fine for me. that way, if the other user does not have that particular font installed on there machine, it will work without worries. : : : anemonE http://www.piregwan.com/ressources/ressources_screenfonts.php |

Using dynamic fonts means that the user must have that exact font installed on their computer...if you use Arial, if will be cross-platform compatable and will not be aliased
