after effects is an absolutely killer program, easiest way to describe is photoshop on a timeline (somewhat like flash). its used primarily for motion graphics (video and film intros, commercial graphics, etc.) and compositing (putting 3d elements into film/video). i'm not using it professionally at the moment but am learning it so as to move into the 3d/video area. as far as learning it i haven't found a lot of really good sites, there's tutorials and a message board at creative cow, also some tips/tutes at this japanese page. your best bet for learning tho is creating motion graphics, amazing book by some people who totally know their stuff. they've got a few intermediate books after you get thru this one as well. hope that helps. chris |

I've used it to animated storyboards before. It's pretty easy to learn the basics. Simple to make your movie into a quicktime file too. I thought it was pretty neat.
